The solar industry in Tamil Nadu is growing fast. Government subsidies, rising electricity costs, and increased environmental awareness have made residential and commercial solar installations one of the most searched services in the state.

A solar company based in central Tamil Nadu had been operating for four years. Good team. Solid installations. Satisfied customers. But their enquiry pipeline was almost entirely dependent on referrals and one sales executive making cold calls.

Their website was three years old. It had 6 pages, no blog, and had never ranked for a single solar-related keyword in Tamil Nadu. Monthly organic sessions: fewer than 80. Monthly leads from the website: zero.

We rebuilt it from the ground up. Eight months later, the site was delivering 40 to 55 qualified leads per month entirely from organic Google search.

Here is exactly what we did.

The Opportunity: A Market Growing Faster Than the Competition’s Websites

Before strategy, we looked at the competitive landscape for solar searches across Tamil Nadu cities.

The search volume for terms like “solar panel installation Madurai,” “rooftop solar Tamil Nadu subsidy,” “solar company Trichy,” and “solar power system for home Tamil Nadu” was significant and growing month on month.

More importantly — most of the competing websites ranking for these terms were thin, slow, and outdated. Many were basic 3-page sites from 2019 with no content depth, no schema, and PageSpeed scores below 40. The barrier to outranking them was not high. The opportunity was simply to build something better than what was already there.

The Architecture: Built Around Search Intent

We mapped every relevant search query into three categories — informational, commercial, and local.

Informational searches — “how solar panels work,” “solar subsidy Tamil Nadu 2026,” “how many solar panels for a 3BHK home” — needed blog content that answered these questions thoroughly.

Commercial searches — “solar panel installation company Tamil Nadu,” “best solar company Coimbatore” — needed strong service pages with trust signals, pricing guidance, and clear calls to action.

Local searches — “solar company Madurai,” “solar installation Trichy,” “solar panels Salem” — needed city-specific landing pages, each with content unique to that city’s solar adoption context, government scheme details, and local contact information.

We built 8 city landing pages, 6 core service pages, and launched with 10 blog posts covering the highest-volume informational queries in the Tamil Nadu solar market.

The Technical Build

WordPress with Divi. Managed WordPress hosting. Images served in WebP format. WP Rocket for caching. Mobile PageSpeed score at launch: 87.

RankMath configured across every page — focus keywords, meta data, schema markup. We applied LocalBusiness schema to the homepage and each city landing page. FAQPage schema was added to the service pages and all blog posts. This structured data helped Google understand the business’s service area, service type, and content authority — which accelerated indexing and early ranking movement.

Google Search Console and GA4 were connected on day one, with conversion tracking set up for phone number clicks, WhatsApp button taps, and contact form submissions.

The Content Strategy That Drove Leads

The blog was the engine. Ten posts published at launch, two new posts added monthly — all targeting questions Tamil Nadu homeowners and business owners were actively searching.

Topics included Tamil Nadu solar subsidy eligibility and application process, monthly savings calculations for different home sizes, the difference between on-grid and off-grid systems, maintenance requirements, and how to choose a reliable solar installer.

Each post was structured to rank — proper H1 and H2 hierarchy, internal links to relevant service and city pages, FAQ sections with schema, and a contextual CTA pointing to a free site assessment offer.

The free site assessment offer itself was the conversion mechanism. Rather than a generic “contact us” button, every page offered a specific, low-friction next step that matched where the visitor was in their decision journey.

The Results: Month by Month

By month two, informational blog posts were ranking on page one for several low-competition queries. By month four, three city landing pages had reached page one for their target keywords. By month six, the primary service page was ranking on page one for “solar company Tamil Nadu.”

Month eight organic sessions: 4,200. Monthly leads from the website: 40 to 55 consistently. Lead quality was strong — most enquiries were from homeowners and small business owners with a specific property and a clear installation intent.

The sales executive who had previously spent most of his time on cold calls was now spending the majority of his time following up on inbound leads generated by the website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How competitive is the solar industry for SEO in Tamil Nadu?
Growing competition but still significant opportunity. Most existing solar company websites in Tamil Nadu are technically weak — slow, thin content, no schema, poor mobile performance. A properly built, content-rich website can rank ahead of established competitors within 6 to 9 months.

Q2. How important is blog content for a solar company website in Tamil Nadu?
Critical. The solar buying journey involves significant research — customers search for subsidy information, cost comparisons, and technical explanations before contacting a company. Blog content that answers these questions builds trust and generates the largest share of top-of-funnel traffic.

Q3. Do city landing pages really make a difference for solar companies?
Yes. “Solar company Tamil Nadu” is competitive. “Solar company Madurai” or “solar installation Trichy” are less competitive and have strong commercial intent. City pages allow you to rank across multiple locations simultaneously, multiplying your lead generation surface area.

Q4. What was the most important conversion factor on this website?
The free site assessment offer. A specific, low-friction CTA that matched the visitor’s intent at each stage of their research journey consistently outperformed a generic “contact us” form. Every service and city page offered this same clear next step.

Q5. How long does it take for a solar company website to generate consistent leads in Tamil Nadu?
With proper SEO setup, strong content, and city landing pages, most solar company websites in Tamil Nadu reach consistent lead generation within 6 to 9 months. The blog content continues to compound, delivering more traffic and leads with each passing month.

Q6. Can this approach work for solar companies in smaller Tamil Nadu cities?
Yes — and often more effectively. Smaller cities have less competition for local solar search terms. A city-specific page for a solar company in Nagapattinam or Ramanathapuram can reach page one faster than the same effort in Chennai or Coimbatore, with a proportionally strong impact on lead volume.
